Sign-up for the numerous exciting activities taking place throughout the AISES National Conference.  Activities include tours of higher education institutions and government agencies, as well as corporate partner events.  We invite you to learn how STEM education and industries are being supported by groups in Colorado! 

Space is limited and activities require a sign-up during conference registration unless otherwise noted. 

 

Pre-Conference Webinar: Building Your Personal Brand: Thursday, September 7, 2017 - 11AM-12PM (EST)

Just in time for the 2017 AISES National Conference!  Join IBM for the September 7th webinar designed to help you build your personal brand when meeting with potential colleges and employers.

STEM Activities Day sponsored by Boeing: Wednesday, September 20, 2017 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM

This fun, interactive day of activities will include hands-on STEM activities for pre-college students and educators. Start your AISES National Conference off right with this engaging and helpful afternoon of STEM activities and information. This event is sponsored by the Boeing Company and includes chances to win great prizes!

HackAISES - mini hackathon: Wednesday, September 20, 2017 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

The hackAISES event will be held during the pre-conference events.  AISES is looking for 30-40 hackers to build projects and 12-16 professional members to volunteer as mentors during the mini-hackathon. Crash courses in coding basics, team building, application program interface (API), and other relevant information will be projected during the hackathon to potentially introduce students to new concepts. Mentors will be present to help students troubleshoot issues and answer questions. At the end of the hackathon, a wrap up session gives each team a chance to present and demonstrate their accomplishments.  Prizes will be awarded! Learn More...

National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) Mesa Lab Tour: Thursday, September 21, 2017 1:30 PM - 5:30 PM

Are you interested in how you might use your science, computing or engineering skills in weather and climate careers? Do you wonder how software tools are used to assess current and future weather conditions?  Visit NCAR's Mesa Lab in Boulder, Colorado. Participants will see weather and climate exhibits, observe computer visualizations in a high-tech VisLab, check out the Doppler on Wheels vehicle that is used in storm chasing, and see a weather balloon launch. Other opportunities will include information about student internships and careers in weather – or climate-related fields like atmospheric science, space weather, engineering and high-performance supercomputing.

Target Audience:  Pre-college and College Students. Transportation will be provided from the Colorado Convention Center.


Bureau of Reclamation Water Hydraulic Laboratory and Ice Lab Tour: Thursday, September 21, 2017 1:30 PM - 5:30 PM

The Bureau of Reclamation's Technical Service Center (TSC) is a one-of-a-kind technical service facility that provides innovative solutions to water and power resource issues.  The TSC consists of approximately 500 scientists and engineers, and operates a world-class materials and hydraulic engineering laboratory.  Its mission is to assist in meeting the increasing water demands of the West while protecting the environment and the public's investment in these structures. The Bureau of Reclamation places great emphasis on fulfilling its water delivery obligations, water conservation, water recycling and reuse, and developing partnerships with our customers, states, and Indian Tribes, and in finding ways to bring together the variety of interests to address the competing needs for our limited water resources.

Target Audience: Pre-college and College Students. Transportation will be provided from the Colorado Convention Center. Government-issued photo ID's are required for all adults (age 18 and older) for this tour.


Colorado School of Mines Tour: Thursday, September 21, 2017 1:30 PM - 5:30 PM

The Colorado School of Mines, also referred to as “Mines” is a public research university devoted to engineering and applied science, offering all the advantages of a world-class research institution with a size that allows for personal attention. Studies at Mines are focused on responsible stewardship of the earth and its resources. The world faces a crisis in balancing resource availability with environmental protection and Mines and its programs are central to the solution. Students and faculty engage in a wide variety of research endeavors including energy, water, biotechnology, materials processing, economics, and robotics. The world is Mines!

University of Colorado Denver Tour: Thursday, September 21, 2017 1:30 PM - 5:30 PM

Located in the heart of downtown Denver, CU Denver offers its 14,000 students unparalleled internship, career, and networking opportunities. Join current undergraduate and graduate students as they take you on a tour of CU Denver. University of Colorado Denver Anschutz Medical Campus Tour: Thursday, September 21, 2017 1:30 PM - 5:30 PM

Located east of downtown Denver, CU Anschutz is the only comprehensive academic health sciences center in Colorado, the largest academic health center in the Rocky Mountain region, and one of the newest education, research, and patient care facilities in the world. CU Anschutz features 6 schools and colleges, who collaboratively improve the quality of patient care they deliver, research they conduct, and health professionals they train. Join current undergraduate and graduate students as they take you on a tour of CU Anschutz. Lean Six Sigma White Belt Workshop: Thursday, September 21, 2017 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Lean Six Sigma is a multi-step course that introduces methodology and tools businesses use to maximize profits and increase their value through continuous improvement processes.  Lean Six Sigma is an internationally recognized methodology that is used in a wide variety of industries. Workshop attendees will learn the fundamental principles of process improvement, gain hands-on experience with some of the tools and techniques, and receive certification as a Lean Six Sigma White Belt.

3M Plenary Luncheon: Thursday, September 21, 2017 11:45 AM - 1:15 PM

Honors Luncheon for Students: Saturday, September 23, 2017 11:30 AM - 1:15 PM

You won’t want to miss the energy and excitement at the Honors Luncheon for Students.  It is an annual recognition event at AISES National Conference where AISES student research winners, scholarship recipients, and AISES awardees are announced. Participants are asked to commit to the entire time frame when registering for this event.
